The Swinging Arm

The 510 Crew is a part of soccer team, appropriately named "The Olechna Family Reunion." Our games take place on Fitzpatrick Field on Tuesday nights at either 9:45pm, 10:30pm, or 11:15pm. The league is filled with skilled teams, with matching uniforms and stretching routines. Most players have soccer cleats, and have played the game before at high levels. Then there is "The Olechna Family Reunion." We are a team of holigans, with only a few skilled players. But we have three things on our team that most teams cannot compete with. We have Craig, we have heart, and we have the swinging arm.

Craig is a soccer god. There is no other way to put it. He is like a alchemist, when ever he touches the ball, it turns to gold. The ball is an extension of his body, he has control over its every move. We have a simple motto on our team: "In Craig we Trust." We live that motto to the fullest, and it has served us well

Our teams heart is what the cowardly lion asked for from the Wizard of Oz. If you saw how Dec put himself on the line the other night in goal, you would know what it means to have courage. Beard was a brick wall on defense. No, not because of his skill, but because he had heart and wanted to win. Kazu, mentally out of the game for 90%, checked in to score a hat trick in the last 5 minutes. That takes heart. I could name every player, name all their accomplishments, and you would agree that there would not be enough bronze stars to go around. But there was one thing that brought us the 7-6 victory the other night. Something only the 510 crew knows...The Swinging Arm!

In FIFA'10 for Xbox 360, there is an option to celebrate after a goal is scored. Kazu's favorite move is called the swinging arm. After the player scores the goal, he runs around the field, swinging him arm around in a circle over and over. Last night we adopted this move, and it served us well. Going into the half, we were down 3-2. Of course, Craig had those two goals, but we were playing with a lot of heart. The second half was not going our way. We found ourselves down 6-2 with just over 5 minutes left. We moved Kazu to forward, and he dug deep to score a big goal. Then, as if it were practice, we all started doing the swinging arm, running around the field. A minute later, Kazu followed up with a second goal and again out came the swinging arm. Then DJ Sweets, off an assist from Nickelback, scored his first career goal. The swinging arm was going wild! The opposing team didn't know what hit them. They kicked off again, and there was a quick steal. Off a pass from Brit, Kazu score our teams 5th goal, in a matter of minutes. We were down by one with 2 minutes left on the clock. Again, with heart, Dec made a huge save, passed the ball up to Brit, who passed it up to Kazu. Kazu dribbled and passed it back to Brit, who nailed it into the upper 90. Tie game...and you guessed it, out came the swinging arm! With 15 second left, Brit put a corner kick into Kazu's chest, which he controlled and kicked into the bottom corner of the net for the game winning goal. "The Olechna Family Reunion" ran all around the field, swinging the arm and celebrating the biggest comeback of all time...in intramural history.

This season has been great. We are off to a 1-1-0 start, and have played above anyone's expectations. But most importantly, this season we learned that "In Craig We Trust", to play with our hearts, and to never stop The Swinging Arm.
See us next week (4/11) at 11:15!

Hot Potato!!!

I am very impressed with this one! Aside from the fidgety shuffle, this one is a keeper. Just listen no burning.

It's always a celebration when you're Irish!

Wow!!! Hell of a 50th Anniversary for the St. Patrick's Day Parade here in the valley. For all of those who attended, it was one of the most memorable days or lack thereof. But, it has only just begun! Many celebrations to come within the next week; St. Patrick's Day, spring break, SB and Sweets' birthdays, the Ides of March (why the hell not celebrate? Et tu Brute?) This song is not your traditional irish, but still keeps the heritage strong. So nip on a few brewskis in the name of St. Patrick!

VH510 Storytellers

Setting: 1:30 A.M., Nippy, DJ Sweets walking out of 436 with street cone, SB double fisting Natty Lights, and Kazu nursing a can of beer.

State of Kazu: Feelin' Good/Drunk
State of DJ Sweets: Zooted
State of SB: Feelin' Good/Calm Seas
Where's Bodhi? On the couch...in Hoboken.

- So, here's what what happened...the three of us walk out of 436 after making an appearance at a beat, after-party where there were about 5 people doing nothing but being drunken fools. After 5 minutes, we realize it's time to go. On the way out, DJ Sweets grabs a street cone, that obviously was inside the house and needing to be grabbed, and takes it outside with him as we exit the party. Immediately after closing the door and exiting the premises, SB and DJ Sweets are walking next to each other, with Kazu lagging behind of course, and DJ Sweets decides to place the cone, in a zooted, drunken manner, atop the hood of a car parked on the side of the street. Instantaneously, after placing the street cone on the hood, SB hears a car start to race up the hill and thinks to himself, "Here comes another drunken asshole driving his car after a "bangin" night at Cockeye's." Soon thereafter, a Public Safety car pulls in between SB and Jim...Kazu was still lagging behind at this point. To paint the picture for you, SB was double-fisting Natty Lights and DJ Sweets had just planted a street cone as a hood ornament on a nearby car...so...who did the Public Safety guy yell towards?....DJ Sweets, of course...because street cones are a bigger concern than what SB was doing. Here's how the situation went after this:

-Cop: "Hey you...come here!"
-DJ Sweets: "Hell no..not a chance."
-SB: (laughing)
-DJ Sweets drops his can of brew and starts speed walking up the hill.
-SB...still laughing.
-After reaching the top of the hill (Clay)...DJ Sweets makes a hilarious and bold move.
-DJ Sweets screams: "Run fucker!"...to the Cop...and proceeds to run.
-Cop...still parked next to SB, who is still double-fisting Natty...says: "Oh, we got a tough guy huh!?"
-SB: laughing hysterically now, yells out, "Go Sweets Go!"..in a jokingly, yet serious manner.
-DJ Sweets goes on to run into the night-time blackness of Scranton...with a Public Safety car now racing after him..and SB chasing the Public Safety car, still gripping his two brews...and Kazu chasing the entire situation.
-SB chases the Public Safety car to the point where he can see that DJ Sweets has eluded the law...and continues to laugh...after realizing how hilarious that whole situation was.

- Needless to say...we all got away without harm or any trouble whatsoever...and had a good story to laugh about as we walked to the next party. And yes...for those who were wondering...Kazu did catch up to the whole situation, but he was safe from the start since the cop did not notice him along with SB and DJ Sweets.

SCORE: the 510 Crew- 1....Pigs- 0

Take Over Control!

So, it is Monday again.....time to get back into the trenches. After a relentless weekend of self inflicting abusive acts, my liver comes out on top again, but my mind is still very hazy. This song isn't your typical work week starter, but it gives you something to look forward to on friday. I have a fever and the only medicine is to rage!
